Fall events in port orchard

Port Orchard really starts leaning into fall in October. The farmers market fills the waterfront every Saturday, farms and forests around South Kitsap take on their autumn colors, and the second half of the month brings some of the area's best family-friendly Halloween events!

Bay Street Halloweekend

OCTOBER 23–25, 2026

Halloween takes over the Port Orchard waterfront for an entire weekend this year.

Halloweekend transforms downtown Port Orchard into three days of costumes, candy, games and spooky family fun, with activities spread throughout Bay Street and the waterfront.

The weekend includes the Ghostly Goose Chase, Halloween storytime and costume parade, a teen Monster Mash, haunted trivia, Halloween activities at the farmers market, pictures with a witch at the Sidney Art Gallery & Museum, a haunted escape room, costume contest, emergency-vehicle touch-a-truck experiences and more.

Throw on a costume, grab a coffee and spend the weekend wandering downtown.

Harvest Fest at Miracle Ranch

OCTOBER 16–18 & 23–25, 2026

Want the full rural PNW fall experience? Head into rural South Kitsap for Harvest Fest at Miracle Ranch.

This family-friendly fall tradition includes free admission along with hay wagon rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, face painting, a rodeo and hay maze, with additional food and activities available for purchase.

And because apparently one day of autumn isn't enough, Miracle Ranch also offers overnight Harvest Fest packages for families who want to turn the experience into a complete fall getaway.

SATURDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER 31, 2026

One of the easiest ways to start a fall Saturday in Port Orchard is right on the waterfront.

The Port Orchard Farmers Market has been a local tradition since the 1970s and fills the downtown waterfront with regional farmers, food producers, makers and ready-to-eat treats.

In October, think apples, squash, pumpkins, baked goods and all those things that suddenly seem necessary the moment the temperature drops below 60 degrees.

The market runs Saturdays from 9 AM–2 PM through October 31, with special fall programming including Halloween and harvest activities during Halloweekend.

Kitsap Live Steamers Ghost Train

OCTOBER 24, 2026

All aboard...if you dare! Every October, the miniature railroad hidden inside South Kitsap Regional Park (you’ll need a ride from the waterfront to get there gets a Halloween makeover for the Kitsap Live Steamers Ghost Train.

The little trains travel through the forest after dark for a wonderfully quirky South Kitsap Halloween tradition that is part miniature railroad adventure, part spooky forest ride.

The 2026 Ghost Train runs October 24 from 5–9 PM and benefits Western Washington Center for the Arts.

Reservations are required, so this is one event you'll want to plan ahead for.

Small Business Saturday

NOVEMBER 28, 2026

Skip the big-box shopping and spend the Saturday after Thanksgiving exploring downtown Port Orchard's independent stores, restaurants and cafés.

Small Business Saturday begins with a 9:30 AM kickoff downtown and includes Bay Street Bucks for the first arrivals, raffle opportunities, live music and activities throughout the day.

More importantly, it's an excellent excuse to wander Bay Street, find something you won't see at the mall and support the businesses that give Port Orchard its personality.

The Perfect Fall Day in Port Orchard

One of our favorite ways to experience Port Orchard is simply to start at the waterfront, follow Bay Street wherever it takes you, eat something delicious, shop local and then disappear into the forest for a while.

8:30 AM: Arrive by Foot Ferry (or by car)

If you're coming from Seattle, consider leaving the car behind entirely (unless you want to explore further afield to Manchester State Park or beyond, more on that later).

Take the Washington State Ferry from Seattle to Bremerton, then walk next door to the Kitsap Transit passenger ferry for the short trip across Sinclair Inlet to downtown Port Orchard for $2. The Port Orchard–Bremerton foot ferry takes roughly 10 minutes and drops you directly onto the waterfront, steps from restaurants, shops and the farmers market.

If you're lucky, you might even ride aboard the historic Carlisle II, a surviving vessel connected to Puget Sound's legendary Mosquito Fleet.

9 AM: Coffee + Bay Street

Coffee first! Downtown PO has several great options, including Mercantile Coffee Co. inside Josephine's Mercantile and Carter & Co. and The Coffee Oasis on Bay Street.

Take your coffee and find a spot start on historic Bay Street - Port Orchard's old-school downtown core, and one of the things we love most about it is that it still feels distinctly local. There are picnic tables and benches overloking the marina that, on a day free of rain, make for the perfect place to sip your coffee.

10 AM: Saturday? Start at the Port Orchard Farmers Market

If you're visiting on a Saturday before the end of October, you're in luck! The Port Orchard Farmers Market sits directly on the waterfront, making it ridiculously easy to step off the foot ferry and start exploring. Grab a snack, browse produce and flowers, meet local makers & artists and pick up a souvenier. Open Saturdays - 9am-2pm through October.

11 AM: Shop Your Way Down Bay Street

Give yourself time to wander.

Start with Josephine's Mercantile, a massive vintage, home décor and gift marketplace that's practically a Port Orchard destination by itself.

Then explore Gathered, Mainline Music, The Bisque, Black Cat Collectables, Brick Ally, Gigi's Emporium, Crow's Curiosities, Linzie Jo, Good Stuff Grocery, Salmonberry Books, Old Central Antiques, Unity Skate Shop, C-Side Records, The Candy Shoppe, Woodland Cottage Yarns… and whatever else catches your eye.

Dig through records. Find vintage treasures. Buy something weird. Grab some candy. Talk to the shop owner. Fall is an especially good time to explore downtown because browsing inside cozy little shops suddenly feels like exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

12 PM: Lunch on the Waterfront

Port Orchard's downtown food scene has some wonderful options. For craft beer, cider and a big menu of tasty casual food right near the ferry dock, try Peninsula BevCo. Rustica Grille is in the Port Orchard Market and known for big hearty sandwiches. The Brick House Bar and Grill has indoor and outdoor seating with incredible burgers and fish + chips. Craving pizza? Damn Fine Pizza pairs thin, crispy pies with drinks and waterfront views. Khao Soi and Thai Charlie's are solid options for Thai comfort food and La Palapa Mexican Grill for Mexican favorites. Puget Sound Pizza and Blue Goose Tavern are great casual options with great water views. A bit of a stroll down the road will bring you to a local favorite - Whiskey Gulch who rock a diverse menu, a solid tap list and killer views.

Want to turn lunch into something a little more interesting? Head uphill to Holy Water, a 21+ cocktail lounge and restaurant tucked inside a historic church.

And if you're saving room for dessert (which you should) Carter & Company has pastries, chocolates, coffee and house-made ice cream right on Bay Street.

1:30 PM: Discover Port Orchard's History

Walk one block uphill from Bay Street to the Sidney Art Gallery & Museum. The building dates to 1908 and houses rotating exhibitions from Northwest artists along with the Sidney Museum upstairs. The museum offers a glimpse into early Port Orchard through historic photographs and recreated spaces including an old general store, school, doctor's office and hardware store.

Admission is free, although donations are appreciated.

2 PM: Walk the Port Orchard Waterfront

Follow the shoreline through Port Orchard Waterfront Park and along the marina and boardwalk.

Watch boats move through Sinclair Inlet, look across the water toward Bremerton and keep an eye out for seals, seabirds and the occasional bald eagle.

Fall afternoons on the waterfront can be classic Pacific Northwest: clouds hanging low over the water, leaves blowing down Bay Street and ferries moving back and forth across the inlet. Bring a jacket - in the fall it could be raining, cloudy and sunny all in the same afternoon!

3:30 PM: Choose Your Adventure

OPTION 1: Go Into the Forest at Banner Forest

Drive about 15 minutes from downtown and suddenly you're surrounded by evergreen forests.

Banner Forest Heritage Park encompasses roughly 635 acres with an extensive network of trails used by hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. On a cool fall afternoon, this is about as Pacific Northwest as it gets. Ferns. Moss. Mud. Towering trees….it’s perfect.

OPTION 2: Explore Manchester State Park

If saltwater is more your speed, head east to Manchester State Park (camping options abound for the adventurous).

This year-round waterfront park combines more than 3,400 feet of shoreline with forest trails, beach access and remnants of its military past - including the park's massive former torpedo warehouse. Walk through the woods, explore the beach and watch marine traffic moving through Rich Passage.

In autumn, when the summer crowds disappear and the forest gets a little misty and the leaves of the maples turn orange and fall to the ground, Manchester is especially beautiful.

6 PM: Back Downtown for Dinner

Head back toward Bay Street as the lights start coming on downtown. Grab dinner, order something warm and give yourself permission to linger as the light fades. This is also a good time to revisit somewhere you noticed earlier but didn't have time to explore.

And if the weather turns? Perfect. Port Orchard does rainy Northwest evenings like a pro.

Make It a Fall Weekend

Port Orchard works especially well as a basecamp for exploring South Kitsap because the experience changes quickly once you leave downtown.

Spend one day exploring Bay Street and the waterfront, then use your second day for Manchester State Park, Banner Forest, rural South Kitsap or one of the area's seasonal fall events.

You can also hop across Sinclair Inlet to explore Bremerton without getting in the car.

That combination - small-town waterfront + forest + ferries + easy access to Seattle - is what makes Port Orchard such an underrated Pacific Northwest weekend getaway.
