Eastern Wind Glass
About Dixie
What was your first job?
“My first official job was working at Orange Julius evenings and weekends.”
Where do you draw inspiration/creativity in your life?
“Other artists, nature, and sometimes an idea jumps from my brain.”
About Eastern Wind Glass
How did the idea of starting Eastern Wind Glass begin?
“I had been working with glass for about 10 years when I lost my job. I had been in retail management for over 30 years and did not know what to do. A friend said why don't you open a glass shop, about that same time I wandered into a ceramic shop, and Eastern Wind Glass was born after my conversation with the owner. I rented a small space in her shop for three years before moving to my current location seven years ago.”
The Drive
Tell us what/who drives you to keep working hard towards your goals.
“I keep going with my business because I love working with glass and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with people. It also gives me a great deal of pleasure to see people who say they are not artistic make something they love. To see the joy in their eyes is amazing.”
Love Kitsap
Tell us your fave local spot for a comfort meal - what do you always order?
“One of my favorite places is right here in Bremerton. It is HiLo's. The food is great, the atmosphere is so comfortable, the owner is always happy and pleasant and they source their food locally when they can. I usually have their breakfast burrito or eggs and hashbrowns.”
Live Kitsap
Out of town guests are coming for the weekend. What is the most important thing you share with them about Kitsap? Where do you absolutely have to take them?
“When people come to visit we usually hop on the ferry so they can enjoy the boat, the views, and get a feel for this wonderful place. I make sure each visitor, if they have not been here before gets to see the water, the beach and eat a good Pacific Northwest meal.”
Thrive in Kitsap
Where are your favorite place(s) to get outside. What do you do when you go?
“My favorite places are outside because I spend so much of my day indoors. When I am outside I am close to trees and water and I walk, breathe, and listen to the sounds. I enjoy feeling the wind and/or rain on my face.”
