About wendy

What was your first job?

“A skating rink! In high school, I played roller derby and was lucky to get a job at the local skating rink! As someone who loves roller skating, this job was the dream!”

Where do you draw inspiration/creativity in your life?

“A lot of what I create is based on what I myself would love to wear. I use a lot of celestial designs, natural designs, and adore creating with gemstones. I draw from nature’s patterns and colors, fairy tales, and even dreams.”

About western dawn art

How did the idea of starting Western Dawn Art begin?

“Selling my jewelry has pretty much always been a dream of mine! In middle school, I sold wire-wrapped rings for $2 to people at school and made jewelry with anything and everything I could find using tools from my dad's garage. My tools and style have improved greatly since then but the dream has stayed the same.”

The Genesis

Tell us the story of how Western Dawn Art came to fruition.

“I started Western Dawn Art in November 2020 after finishing a job working at an organic farm. I wanted to reconnect with my creative side and rediscover my love of jewelry making. I started an Instagram account and an Etsy shop, and I am now also doing local markets and festivals as much as possible! I moved to Washington about a year and a half ago and have felt so welcomed by the art community here in Kitsap!”

The Drive

Tell us what/who drives you to keep working hard towards your goals.

“Making jewelry for others to wear feels like such a special privilege. That something I create becomes a part of someone's everyday life and beauty is so significant for me. This opportunity to make beautiful jewelry and to live my dream keeps me working hard! Also, my partner Cameron is always incredibly supportive and helps push me to pursue my dreams of being a jewelry artist!”

Love Kitsap

Tell us your fave local drink spot - coffee, tea, wine, tequila, whatever!

“I love Aroydy Thai - can't ever go wrong with some pad thai!”

Live Kitsap

Out-of-town guests are coming for the weekend. What is the most important thing you share with them about the Kitsap Peninsula? Where do you absolutely have to take them?

“I love showing them around Poulsbo and all the quirky Norway Viking murals and buildings.”

Thrive in Kitsap
